Whilst I agree with the overall idea of your piece, I urge caution. Tom Wolfe is indeed one of the greatest authors out there, yet he was of an era. By all means, copy all you want, however, work on your own voice and tone at the same time. We're all individuals, writers included. There's nothing worse than someone reading your piece and commenting: "I like it, but it's second-rate Tom Wolfe". :-)
