I live in Pune city, where Onam is restricted only to individual homes and Malayali associations. My kids definitely miss everything I enjoyed during my childhood in my ancestral home in the small village. They don’t have a Grandpa, frying golden chips in’ uruli ‘for them. They have the opulence of city life. They don’t have to wait for Onam to buy new clothes! I can binge-watch all Onam release movies curled up on my sofa. Past is past, there is no comparison. I make sure to get new clothes for my family for Onam and make a sumptuous Sadya served on banana leaves. And they love it… The least I could do for bringing in the spirit of Onam!
