That's a very good tip. What I tend to do is copy the text from the online article (most print publications upload their pieces on their websites. In fact, it was the former editor of The Guardian, Alan Rushbridger, who said that The Guardian was a website that printed a newspaper :-D) and paste it on a blank Word document. It's easier to do a quick word count that way. :-)
