Thanks for reading. Spanish is my mother tongue but English has become my second one (if you’re allowed to have more than one mother tongue, that is. :-D). For years I felt comfortable reading in German until I came to live here. Saying that, I did read four novels in German back-to-back-to-back-to-back by the same author a few years ago. I love reading in French whenever I can.

My advice is to start with a book that’s already been translated. A book you’ve already read in English (but originally in Spanish) and work your way from there. It does wonders for your confidence, plus it increases your cultural awareness. You’d be surprised at the challenges we, translators, face when transposing content from one language to the other.
