Hmmm.... You arrived at socialism as a reaction against capitalism. When we react against things, we lack the space and time to think things through. You're pushing back. Constantly.
What you describe oso well is humanism for me. The problem with socialism (and I should know, being born where I was) is that once in power it corrupts as much as or worse than capitalism. With capitalism you know where you stand most of the time. Socialism alights on your shoulder, pretends to be your mate and by the time you realise, it's too late. It's made off with your freedom of speech, independent press and judiciary and right to habeas corpus.
Humanism is the one for me. Defaulting to what we are: humans in tandem with nature. The individual within a collective.
