Great images here. I am a fan of black and white photography and in this case it brings out the humanity of my fellow Cubans. One small detail, though, and hopefully I won’t come across as a pedant. The “special period” did not end in 1999. I have no idea how Anna got hold of this piece of informaiton. The “special period” continues to this day in many areas of the Cuban economy, social and political life. Shortages are still very common and the minute you leave Havana (which has had most of the recent dollar-infused windfall) you realise that there is a very different Cuba to learn about.
