Our human behavior is driven by strong emotions that develop from our birth. Earliest are love and fear — normally love for our parents, the people upon whose help we most depend — and fear of pain and loss, including loss of love. As we grow, we also develop love for ourselves and our abilities, and self-love can sometimes become very strong. Fear of loss expands to include fear of loss of self — fear of death.
