Fortunately, I discovered many of the missing puzzle pieces that matter to this day. My care for Rose was rewarded with her honesty about her marriage to Papa, its pitfalls, and the damaging effect of Papa’s abuse, both physical and emotional, which she met with the decisive action to leave, divorce, and forge a new future for herself and her children. I am grateful for the opportunities to answer some of these questions and for the continuing friendship with Rose, who is now 94. Nothing means more to me now than to tell her that I am sorry for what she has experienced and that I love her and to hear her reciprocity that she loves me too.
